Space for Human Rights (SEHR) aims to improve the suitability of satellite data and – information for the use in monitoring, compliance and accountability in the human rights domain. SEHR promotes the cooperation between the legal, technical and business oriented actors. In its activities the organisation is working together with its academic and national partners and European and international organisations such as the Agency for the EU Space Programme, EUSPA, the European Space Agency, ESA and the International Criminal Court, ICC.
SEHR is seeking attention of European and national policymakers to include this specific use of satellite data and – information in future policy documents and implementing activities.
SEHR started in 2022 with an Initial Paper and organized with its partners a seminar in 2023 to identify areas for further research and improvement. These areas combined with the outcome of 2024 activities will form the basis for a follow-up seminar in the summer of 2024. Conclusions of this seminar will give further guidance to the SEHR activities.
To facilitate further research and other activities SEHR is implementing a database with reference material and other publications.
